Remembering Ligeti György Ligeti is the focus of a three-day event in Dublin this November. One of the most influential composers of the last half-century, György Ligeti, who died in June last year at the age of 83, is to be celebrated in a three-day event with performances at Dublin’s National Concert Hall and the Liberty Hall Theatre, Eden Quay. Running from 9-11 November, Remembering Ligeti will feature performances of Ligeti’s chamber music by Irish and international artists and the screening of three films by cult director Stanley Kubrick that include works by Ligeti on their soundtrack alongside the presentation of eight academic papers by leading authorities on the late Hungarian-born composer. Among the participating artists are Irish harpsichordist David Adams, accordion player Dermot Dunne and Ligeti Winds, and the Dublin-based British cellist William Butt. Also taking part are the Arditti Quartet, pianist Ian Pace and horn player Roger Montgomery. Produced by Gavin O’Sullivan with funding from the Arts Council and UCD, Dublin, the festival’s artistic director is Benjamin Dwyer.
