New Irish music is to be celebrated in Milwaukee in September.

Presented by the Wisconsin-based new music ensemble, Present Music, the event on 15 September, titled Irish Stew, Halfway to St Patrick’s Day, launches the group’s 26th season and features the work of four Irish composers.

The evening, created with the assistance of the Contemporary Music Centre, who supplied scores, recordings and information to the organisers, will feature performances of Gerald Barry’s Piano Quartet No 2 and Triorchic Blues, Linda Buckley’s do you remember the planets and Frank O’Hara on the Phone by Andrew Hamilton.

A curtain-raising event at 6pm by traditional Irish three-piece Cé is followed by the concert at 7.30pm in the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center, 2133 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee which will also feature Irish dancers, pipes and drums and storytelling. The evening ends with refreshments, live music and a Céilí.
