National Symphony Orchestra Celebrates Philip Martin at 60

Philip Martin

The 60th birthdays of Philip Martin and Alexander Anissimov are to be marked by the RTÉ NSO.

Pianist-composer Philip Martin and conductor Alexander Anissimov both reach the age of 60 this year, a milestone to be marked by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, with whom both men have a long association.

A celebratory concert at Dublin’s National Concert Hall on 2 November will feature Philip Martin’s Piano Concerto No 3, The Nine Orders of the Angels, with the composer himself as soloist, in a programme shot through with musical mysticism and religious visions. Other featured works include Lyadov’s From the Apocalypse, Prokofiev’s Third Symphony, The Fiery Angel, and Scriabin’s The Poem of Ecstasy. The concert will be conducted by Alexander Anissimov.
