New Music Connects
The second workshop in the New Music Connects project will take place on Friday 28 September in the Galway Education Centre, Monivea Road in Galway. Composer Deirdre Gribbin will facilitate the workshop during which the ConTempo String Quartet will work individually with the three composers Ed Bennett, Rob Canning and David Flynn. During this session the composers will have different versions of their pieces workshoped by the quartet, allowing the composers the chance to see how different aspects of their pieces work. The workshop will open its doors to the public from 1.00 - 3.30 pm and each piece will be rehearsed in front of the audience. The performers and composers will work through the pieces together solving any difficulties that arise. This will offer the audience a chance to hear why one version works better than another, giving them a greater sense of involvement in the composition of these three new pieces. New Music Connects is a collaborative project between the Contemporary Music Centre and the Galway Ensemble-in-Residence. It is funded by the Arts Council/An Comhairle Ealaíon’s Project: New Work Award Scheme 2006. These three new pieces composed as part of the project will be premiered in Dublin on 2 December and Galway on 4 December.
