New Music Connects Concerts
The ConTempo String Quartet will perform three new pieces by Irish composers in concerts in Dublin and Galway in December. The works by Ed Bennett, Rob Canning and David Flynn take place as part of CMC's year-long project with the Galway Ensemble-in-Residence, New Music Connects. The performances mark the culmination of a project during which the composers and performers worked closely together in a series of workshops to develop their pieces. The first workshop, which took place in Galway in March, allowed the composers to present their ideas to the quartet. The subsequent workshop in September was open to the public and gave the three composers an opportunity to hear their pieces played by the quartet in a number of different ways, as well as giving the composers the chance to work out any technical difficulties with their pieces. The three new works will be premiered in Dublin on 2 December at the Hugh Lane Gallery, Parnell Square North, and in Galway on 4 December at the Kenny Gallery, High Street. For further information and updates on how the project is progressing, check out our New Music Connects blog For more information please see our Calendar or contact CMC on 01-6731922 or email info@cmc.ie. New Music Connects is a collaborative project between the Contemporary Music Centre and the Galway Ensemble-in-Residence. It is funded by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon’s Project: New Work Award Scheme 2006. ![]() Posted: 26 October 2007
