Gaudeamus Music Week 2007
A work by Andrew Hamilton has been selected for performance in the 2007 Gaudeamus Music Week in September. The jury, this year consisting of Mary Finsterer (Australia), Kevin Volans (South Africa) and Yannis Kyriakides (Cyprus/the Netherlands), made a selection of seventeen works out of more than 380 entries written by composers from 54 different countries ranging from Argentina to Iceland and from Taiwan to Costa-Rica. Andrew Hamilton's piece Music for Roger Casement was originally commissioned by the Ives Ensemble and was premiered in Amsterdam in November 2006. The work was also performed by the ensemble at the National Concert Hall's Composers' Choice series in January of this year. The selected pieces will be performed during the Gaudeamus Music Week and are nominated for the Gaudeamus Prize, which will be awarded at the end of the festival. A preliminary programme will be available on the Gaudeamus web site in May. Posted: 16 March 2007
