A new Violin Sonata by Michael Finnissy is to receive its first performance in Derry in December.

The Sonata’s dedicatees, violinist Darragh Morgan and pianist Mary Dullea, will give the world premiere of the work in the Great Hall, Magee Campus, University of Ulster in Derry on 4 December at 1.15pm.

The programme also includes three other works for violin and piano by Finnissy who will attend the premiere. While in Derry he will give a series of masterclasses to University of Ulster students.

In January, Morgan and Dullea will record the work for the New York-based Mode Records for release later in 2008.
