CMC will host the launch of two books on Irish composers on 21 September.

Field Day Publications are releasing two books about Irish composers, Raymond Deane and Aloys Fleischmann. These books form part of the growing Field Day Music Series, which focuses on the classical music tradition in Ireland.

Séamas de Barra’s book on Cork-based composer Aloys Fleischmann is an elegantly written biography that looks at his life as a composer, conductor and teacher. The book highlights Fleischmann’s involvement with various aspects of Irish culture and his efforts to reflect this in his music, and is illustrated with detailed musical examples.

Patrick Zuk’s commentary on Raymond Deane is the first comprehensive study of an Irish composer to be produced during his own lifetime. The book contains an informative guide to Deane’s compositions including a look at technical features of the music, again illustrated with extensive musical examples.

The books will be formally launched in the Contemporary Music Centre, 19 Fishamble Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 8, on Friday 21 September at 6pm.
