Contemporary Youth Orchestra A new youth orchestra is seeking tutors to provide young musicians the opportunity to perform contemporary music. The Contemporary Youth Orchestra is a new initiative by the Model Arts and Niland Gallery, supported by County Sligo Arts Department. It aims to expose young instrumentalists in the North West to contemporary music. This new programme will be running in conjunction with the Sligo Contemporary Music Festival which is held every spring under the artistic direction of composer Ian Wilson. The orchestra will have to opportunity to learn about style, technique and interpretation of contemporary music through a series of talks and rehearsals before the festival, as the opportunity to play or become familiar with contemporary music is not generally available in the North West. The Contemporary Youth Orchestra will then be invited to attend the concerts during the festival, free of charge, and they may also work towards a public performance after the festival. The Contemporary Youth Orchestra is currently looking for a tutor in the north west region, with experience in working with young musicians, and with the interest and ability to put contemporary music across to them in a way that is clear and enjoyable. The Training Workshops will take place on Sundays, 11th, 18th, 25th March, 1st April at 1.00pm-4.00pm. Students must have reached a minimum of Grade V. Further information on the workshops is available the Model Arts and Niland Gallery. Posted: 27 January 2007
