Secluded Orchids and Wild Gardens...
Concorde's next concert at the Hugh Lane Gallery includes music by Elaine Agnew. The concert on 29 April features two premieres and a look back at two of Concorde’s commissions from the last decade. Concorde welcomes Korean composer Si-Hyun Yi to Dublin for the world premiere of Island Baby, a work for soprano and chamber ensemble. Si-Hyun Yi’s work was selected for performance from international submissions and the composer will travel to Dublin for the premiere. Chinese composer Zhou Long will be represented by a trio, Secluded Orchid, for violin, cello and piano. Based on an ancient melody supposedly composed by Confucius, the work evokes the original character and moods of guqin music, and will receive its Irish premiere. Selected from the archives for repeat performances are two Concorde commissions: Elaine Agnew’s Calligraphy, first performed in 2002, and Nicola LeFanu’s Sextet (A Wild Garden), first performed in 1997. The sextet has since been performed and broadcast in Australia and the UK and draws inspiration from the wild gardens in the west of Ireland. This performance takes place on Sunday 29 April at the Dublin City Gallery: The Hugh Lane. See Calendar for details. Posted: 29 March 2007
