First performances to be highlight of New York spotlight on Irish composers. ‘New Music, New Ireland, New York’, a concert devised by pianist Isabelle O’Connell and clarinettist Carol McGonnell for New York’s Carnegie Hall, is to feature the world premieres of works by Ian Wilson and Donnacha Dennehy alongside the first New York performances of music by Elaine Agnew, Linda Buckley and Jennifer Walshe. Ian Wilson’s Cassini Void, written for clarinet and chamber ensemble, will feature McGonnell as soloist, with O’Connell giving the first outing of Donnacha Dennehy’s solo piano piece, Reservoir. The concert will also feature New York-based Irish musicians Gregory Harrington (violin), Jane O’Hara (cello) and the Argento Ensemble conducted by Michel Galante. Presented in association with the Consulate General of Ireland and IN-NYC, with funding from Culture Ireland, the concert begins at 8.30pm on 14 October at Carnegie Hall, 57th Street and 7th Avenue, New York.
