Carlow Young Artists Choir

Ian Wilson
Ian Wilson

The Carlow Young Artists Choir has commissioned two works by Irish composers for their tenth anniversary tour.

Ian Wilson has set the words of An tOileán by Carlow poet Deirdre Brennan to music, his first time setting a piece in Irish to music. The challenge for Ian was to write a work which explored the abundant imagery in the text without overcomplicating it, and find a contemporary language suitable for the young singers without being naïve or derivative.

Sue Furlong has taken on the setting of the words used by Nelson Mandela in his inaugural speech in ’94. Our Deepest Fear portrays the unyielding statement that each of us was born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.

The final performance of Carlow Young Artists Choir 10th Anniversary Concert Tour takes place in Carlow Cathedral on Sunday 17 June 2007. See Calendar for details.
