12th Festival of Youth Orchestras
Music by Bernard Geary will be performed at the Twelfth Annual Festival of Youth Orchestras. The Festival begins with Saint Canice's National School Youth Orchestra from Kilkenny. They will be followed by a collaboration between Cork City Music College Orchestra and Greystones Youth Orchestra with flautist Louise Sheehan and violinist Fiona MacNamara. Music Matters will perform a concerto for guitar and strings by guitarist Brendan Walsh and a performance by the Alexandra College Orchestra rounds off the afternoon. Sligo Academy of Music open the night-time concert with a programme featuring Mozart and John Barry followed by another collaboration, this time between Carlow Youth Orchestra and Wexford School of Music Orchestra.
Dublin Institute of Technology Wind Ensemble will perform music by Adam Gorb and the evening’s performance will be completed by the County Cork VEC Youth Orchestra with guests Ceoltóirí Chairbre and CCSM Jazz Ensemble. The County Cork Orchestra will feature a work titled Pléaracha na Gaoithe by composer Bernard Geary.
