James Wilson Concert

James Wilson
Remembered
James Wilson
James Wilson

A concert of music by the late James Wilson takes place on 16 January.

James Wilson was a prolific composer who liked to write for individual musicians and ensembles that he knew or had heard perform.

Moya O'Grady says about the concert:

"When the concept of this concert was discussed with Jim in July last he was particularly pleased that an entire concert programme would be devoted to his works. Jim was looking forward very much to the concert and hearing his works performed by musicians who he admired and had written many of the works for.

"Sadly Jim’s passing has deprived us of his presence at the concert and also his gracious support for which he was noted and which was always appreciated by both performers and audiences."

Serenade for harp, violin and cello was written in 2002 and dedicated to cellist Moya O’Grady. Following his attendance at a flute, viola and harp recital in the Hugh Lane Gallery he composed Consequences for the trio.

James Wilson composed Sonata No. 6 for violin and piano for Catherina Lemoni and violinist David O’Doherty, after hearing Catherina's performance of his Explorations for solo piano in 2002.

In this concert, organised by Absolute Music, the music of James Wilson will be performed by Catherina Lemoni, Alan Smale, David O'Doherty, Brendan Lawless, Moya O'Grady, Dermot Dunne, Geraldine O'Doherty and Ríona Ó Duinnín.

The concert will take place in the National Concert Hall on Monday 16 January. Please see Calendar for further details.
