New Choral Work by Ian Wilson
A new choral piece by Ian Wilson will be premiered as part of the National Chamber Choir's Summer Series. Germany's Rascher Saxophone Quartet will join the National Chamber Choir (NCC) in Belfast and Dublin for the premiere of composer Ian Wilson's Little Red Fish. The 12-minute work for choir and saxophone quartet is commissioned by the National Chamber Choir of Ireland with funds from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Lottery Unit. The text is by the 20th-century German artist Oskar Kokoschka, and the playful title belies the highly expressionistic writing. The series also includes a performance of An Bás is an Bheatha by Seóirse Bodley, as well as two NCC Culture evenings and a pre-concert interview with pianist, poet and composer Lera Auerbach. Britain's Paul Spicer and Latvia's Kaspars Putnins will guest-conduct concerts exploring the connection between love and death. The series begins in The Great Hall, Queen's University, Belfast on May 31. For details please visit the Calendar. Posted: 20 April 2006
