Ní Dhubhghaill at Christ Church Cathedral

Caitríona Ní Dhubhghaill
Caitríona Ní Dhubhghaill

The first Irish-language responses for evensong, composed by Caitríona Ní Dhubhghaill, were premiered in Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral recently.

Ní Dhubhghaill's Freagraí le h-aghaidh Urnaí na Nóna (preces and responses for evensong) were composed in 2002 with the support of Foras na Gaeilge. They were performed by the cathedral choir as part of the Celtic Revival Summer School 'Ceangal Dhá Chultúr'. This summer school focused on the heritage of the rich interaction between the Irish Protestant community and Gaelic culture.

Ní Dhubhghaill's Irish-language canticles, Cainticí Mhuire agus Shimeoin (2000, recently recorded on the CD 'Live at Christ Church Volume 2: Anthems from America',) were also performed at this service.

The performance took place on Saturday 8 July 2006 in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, during the service of Urnaí na Nóna (Irish-language evensong). See Calendar for further details.
