NCC in Belfast
The National Chamber Choir is joining forces with Queen’s University, Belfast. The National Chamber Choir (NCC), based in Dublin City University, has announced that Queen’s University (QUB) will be its new concert home in Belfast. All the NCC’s Summer and Winter Series concerts will be presented in association with the University’s School of Music and Sonic Arts. In 2006 the NCC will perform five concerts in QUB’s Great Hall. The Choir’s summer series, Eros and Thanatos, will be launched in Belfast with premieres of new works by Irish composer Ian Wilson, and Germany’s Stefan Thomas. This association between the NCC and QUB highlights the benefits of good relationships between North and South and partnerships between the arts and universities. Music students at Queen’s will benefit enormously from this new partnership with the opportunity to attend NCC concerts in QUB free of charge. Professor Michael Alcorn, Head of the School of Music and Sonic Arts at Queen’s said “the University welcomes this exciting opportunity to collaborate with the NCC and to help promote the performance of high quality choral music within Belfast and Northern Ireland. The School of Music and Sonic Arts is currently developing its performance profile, and a collaboration with an excellent professional ensemble such as the NCC will help us reach that goal." The National Chamber Choir welcomes the opportunity to develop its audience base in Northern Ireland through this association with the School of Music and Sonic Arts at QUB.
