Towards a National Music Day
The Forum for Music in Ireland celebrates European Music Day on 21 June. Events taking place include contemporary sound installations in Dublin’s Temple Bar organised by the Contemporary Music Centre, a concert of light choral music by the Mornington Singers at the Goethe Institut, free introductory piano lessons from the European Piano Teachers' Association and jazz music from the Improvised Music Company, to name but a few. On Monday, 19 June, the Forum for Music in Ireland holds its plenary session [pdf ~79K]in The Helix, Glasnevin, Dublin, during which the first steps will be taken towards organising a National Music Day for 2007. As part of this meeting there will be a panel discussion with inputs from Tim Collins, CEO of Ocean FM, and representatives of RTE Radio stations Lyric FM, and Radio 1 (latter to be confirmed) on 'Accessing the Airwaves'. Also during the day, the issue of VAT levied on non-resident artists' fees will be raised by Tania Banotti, and MORI Ireland will present the results of their research into the funding of music in Ireland.
