Simon O'Connor has won an award at this year's PPAI Awards.

Awards of excellence were conferred on magazine publishers, editors and designers at a gala ceremony in Dublin on Thursday, 7 December. Designer Simon O'Connor was presented with the 'Designer of the Year' Award for his work on the Journal of Music in Ireland. The judges said that they 'were impressed with the innovative design of the magazine; they liked its unusual shape and the texture of its cover which made it stand out from its competitors.'

The Periodical Publishers Association (PPAI) Awards presentation has become a major media event attended by the entire Irish magazine industry. The Awards are open to all Irish magazine publishers, not just PPAI members, and as such they represent the accolade of the entire industry. The judging panel is independent of the PPAI and made up of media experts.

The Journal of Music in Ireland is Ireland's bi-monthly traditional, jazz and contemporary music magazine.
