Brazilian Jazz at the Mermaid
Ronan Guilfoyle and his group Tudo Bem perform Brazilian jazz in Bray this week. The band Tudo Bem is the torch-bearer for authentic Brazilian jazz in Ireland. Led by bassist and composer Ronan Guilfoyle, Tudo Bem revels in playing the joyous music of Brazil, a music as diverse as the country itself. Blessed with beautiful melodies, rhythmically sophisticated, and with a bountiful supply of great composers, Brazil is a musical hothouse and Tudo Bem explores the repertoire of Hermeto Pascoal, Tom Jobim, Antonio Adolfo and Caetano Veloso via the grooves of Samba, Partido Alto, Bossa Nova, Biaions and more. The band, which has attracted a devoted following over the past two years, features some of the best jazz musicians in Ireland: the virtuoso guitarist Tommy Halferty, pianist Phil Ware, drummer Sean Carpio and the talented young vocalist Aoife Doyle. The concert will takes place in the Mermaid Arts Centre on Friday 20 January at 8pm. See Calendar for further details. Posted: 17 January 2006
