CMC Celebrates Culture Night 2006
The Contemporary Music Centre will be part of Dublin’s first Culture Night on 22 September. An initiative which has been running for many years in other major cities such as New York, Rome, Paris, Copenhagen etc, on Friday 22 September almost 40 of Dublin’s leading museums, galleries, studios and theatres will throw open their doors until 9.00pm to encourage people who normally don’t do so to visit them and learn of the city’s rich cultural offering. With a programme of indoor and outdoor sound installations and live electronic music, CMC’s contribution is an opportunity for all the family to interact with new music in an innovative way. At 6.30pm, 7.30pm and 8.30pm the band, LouReedsBrain, will play three live electronic sets in the Centre in Fishamble Street, Dublin. Complete with an interactive control surface, audience members can join in all the fun! ‘The perfect rock star would have Iggy Pop’s body and Lou Reed’s Brain’ said David Bowie. An inspiring quote in 1989 for Richard Duckworth and Brian Bridges and their new band. LouReedsBrain is a music group based in Dublin that plays electronic and acoustic musical instruments. Three programmes of indoor and outdoor sound installations as well as indoor video projections will take place. Included are works by recent graduates from Trinity College, Dublin; the Old City New Music 2006 commissions and the ReJoyce in Music 2004 commissions by CMC. This event is part of the Contemporary Music Centre’s 20th anniversary celebrations. For full details of the CMC event, please visit the Calendar. Admission is free and unticketed. Culture Night 2006 is an initiative of Temple Bar Cultural Trust in association with the Council of National Cultural Institutions of Ireland.
