New Music in Sligo

Con Brio logo

Con Brio, Sligo’s music promotion society, presents a range of new music events each season.

In its monthly concerts of chamber music, in addition to the standard repertoire Con Brio is keen to engage its audiences with contemporary music. To that end it encourages visiting performers to include at least one modern piece in their programme.

Con Brio is also interested in having Irish composers write for their concert seasons. To date it has commissioned music from Siobhán Cleary, Elaine Agnew and Raymond Deane, whose new string trio will be premiered by the Leopold Trio in February 2007.

Con Brio also runs an annual series of public lectures, the aim of which is to further the appreciation and understanding of ‘serious’ music, and the organisation helps promote young performers in Sligo as well as touring groups such as Opera Theatre Company.

Con Brio’s next contemporary event is a performance of Ian Wilson’s String Quartet No. 2: The Capsizing Man and other Stories, by the ConTempo quartet on 17 February 2006.
