CMC Trophy at Cork International Choral Festival
Works by several Irish composers will be performed at the Cork International Choral Festival. The Perpetual Trophy for the Performance of Irish Contemporary Choral Music is a special award open to adult choirs competing in the National Competitions of the Cork International Choral Festival. It is awarded for the performance of an original choral work by an Irish composer, written after 1975, and chosen from the collection of the Contemporary Music Centre. This year's competitors for the trophy are Clermot Chorale (Colin Mawby/Locus Iste), Commodore Male Voice Choir (Declan Townsend/Ár nAthair), the City of Derry Youth Choir (Michael McGlynn/Geantraí), NUIG Choral Society (Mary McAuliffe/Ever Free; Douglas Gunn/Trí Seanfhocail) and the New Dublin Voices (Rhona Clarke/Rorate Caeli). The national competitions will also include performances of works by Deirdre Ní Chaomhánaigh, David Hayes, Eleanor Daley and Seóirse Bodley. Music by contemporary Irish composers will also be performed by a number of choirs in the Schools competition, with works by Rhona Clarke, Michael Holohan, Séamas de Barra, Michael McGlynn, Gerard Victory and Éamonn Ó Gallchobhair. The 52nd Cork International Choral Festival runs from Wednesday 26 to Sunday 30 April 2006. Posted: 27 March 2006
