CMC Seminar on Visual Arts and Music
The Contemporary Music Centre holds an information morning on collaborations across the visual arts and music on 8 November. The event is open to anyone who would like to know more about working with new music and composers in Ireland, particularly film-makers, visual artists, animators and composers. It will focus on the importance of music in film and art, and will provide valuable information on how film-makers and visual artists can contact and go about working with composers in Ireland. Presentations will be made by Nicky Gogan (film-maker), Alice Maher (visual-artist), Dennis McNulty (composer) and Trevor Knight (composer). Danijela Kulezic-Wilson, PhD, will discuss collaborations by directors such as Martin Scorsese, Anthony Minghella and David Lynch with new music composers. In an additional afternoon session beginning at 1.45pm, Danijela Kulezic-Wilson returns to speak more about the musical approach to film and to demonstrate the difference between Hollywood mainstream scoring practice and a new film music aesthetic that has emerged from this approach. Films to be discussed include The Matrix by the Wachowski Brothers, Requiem for a Dream by Darren Aronofsky, and Birth by Jonathan Glazer. Admission is free and CMC staff will be on hand to demonstrate the resources and services available to visual artists and film-makers. Coffee and tea will be served at 10.30am before the seminar begins and a light lunch will be served at 1.00pm. The Contemporary Music Centre celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2006 and this seminar is part of a special programme of events throughout the year. The seminar takes place on Wednesday 8 November in the Contemporary Music Centre library. See Calendar for details.
