CMC Salon at the Goethe-Institut
The Contemporary Music Centre’s final new music Salon of 2006 took place on Thursday 23 November in the Goethe-Institut in Dublin's Merrion Square. Featuring wind trio Prey, the event included performances and discussion of Peadar Townsend's Wind Trio, Michael McGlynn's Triplets and John Buckley's Five Epigrams. Both Peadar Townsend and Michael McGlynn were present and spoke and answered questions about their pieces. The performers (Susan Doyle, Síle Daly and Deirdre O'Leary) also contributed to the discussions and provided valuable insights into each of the pieces from the performers' perspective, something that isn't always possible with concert performances of works. The Contemporary Music Centre's new music Salon series has been running since 2003 and offers an opportunity to hear and discuss contemporary music in an informal atmosphere. The series provides a platform for performers and composers to experiment with new work without the pressures of a formal concert setting. CMC’s Salon performances are made possible by the support of the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon. CMC would like to acknowledge the support of the Goethe Institut, Dublin, in making the venue available. Posted: 30 November 2006
