Carols at CMC Start the Christmas celebrations in CMC with an evening of carols sung by the Mornington Singers. The Mornington Singers will perform contemporary carols alongside more traditional ones in the Handel courtyard beside CMC on Fishamble Street at 6.30pm on Thursday 7 December 2006. A number of carols written by Irish composers feature alongside the old favourites: Joseph Groocock's A hymne on the nativitie of my saviour; Declan Townsend's And all the stars looked down and Eric Sweeney's There is no Rose. The performance will last 30 minutes and will be followed by seasonal refreshments in the Contemporary Music Centre.
The Mornington Singers perform throughout the year in many venues in Ireland and abroad. Awarded first prize in the National Competition for Chamber Choirs at the Cork International Choral Festival 2004, they are established as one of Dublin's leading chamber choirs. The Mornington Singers will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2007 with a number of projects, including a tour to St. John's, Newfoundland as part of the Festival 500 choral event. Orla Flanagan, conductor of the choir since 2002, is a lecturer in the School of Music in Trinity College, Dublin, and at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. She was appointed the first Kodály Institute Liaison for Ireland, and in the 2006 Cork International Choral Festival she was awarded the International Jury Special Award in the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition for the performance of an imaginative and artistic programme.
