Samuel Beckett Centenary and the NCH

Samuel Beckett
Samuel Beckett

The National Concert Hall marks this year’s Samuel Beckett Centenary with a six-hour music marathon.

The National Concert Hall joins with Ireland’s Beckett Centenary Festival in presenting the Irish première of Morton Feldman's Quartet No. 2.

The marathon work is rarely performed as it can last up to six hours. The Pellegrini Quartet will perform the work with no intermission while audience members are free to wander in and out as they please.

A meeting in Berlin in 1976 led to the development of a warm relationship between Morton Feldman (1926-1987) and Samuel Beckett (1906-1989), leading to several projects and collaborations over the years.

Founded in 1989, the Pellegrini Quartet is dedicated to the performance of both classical and contemporary repertoire. They have performed many of Feldman's works throughout Europe, and regularly appear at international festivals. Their latest release, Morton Feldman's String Quartet and Orchestra, was recorded with the symphony orchestra of the Hessische Rundfunk, Frankfurt.

This performance will take place on Friday 14 April in the National Concert Hall, Dublin. For further details, please visit the Beckett Centenary Festival web site.
