Samuel Beckett and Music
A seminar on Samuel Beckett and Music takes place at The Contemporary Music Centre on Tuesday, 4 April. What influence has Samuel Beckett had on composers worldwide? What affect has he had on Irish composers? Did Beckett use music in his own works? Does he still affect contemporary music? These and other questions will be explored by three eminent speakers in the seminar which is funded by the Beckett Centenary Festival 2006 and takes place as part of CMC’s 20th anniversary celebrations. The speakers are Dr Donnacha Dennehy, composer and lecturer, Trinity College, Dublin; Professor Linda Ben-Zwi, senior professor of Theatre Studies, Tel Aviv University and Dr Catherine Laws, lecturer in music, musicologist and pianist, from Dartington University, UK. Beckett has been an enormous influence on a number of Irish composers and the presentations and discussion will explore this in an international context. The seminar takes place on Tuesday, 4 April 2006 from 8.00 – 9.30 pm in the Contemporary Music Centre, 19 Fishamble Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 8. Admission is free but space is limited so booking is advised. Please contact Karen Hennessy, Promotion Manager, email khennessy@cmc.ie or telephone (01) 673 1922.
