AIMS Choral Commission

A choral work by Wexford composer Sue Furlong commissioned by the AIMS Choral Festival was premiered recently.

Pilgrimage Song for mixed choir is based on Psalm 84 and is intended for performance by parish choirs. The commission marks the 200th anniversary of St Michael's Theatre in New Ross, originally the parish church and now the venue for the AIMS Choral Festival.

Members of nine local choirs came together to sing the work in the theatre and in the present parish church on Sunday, 21 May. They were conducted by Kevin Kennedy and accompanied by piano (Connie Tantrum) and string quartet (Theresa Costello, Patricia Cuddihey, Deirdre Scanlon, and Maeve McEvoy).

Further information is from the AIMS Choral Festival, Chamber of Commerce, New Ross, Co Waterford.
