Walshe in Stockholm and Hamburg
The 2005 Stockholm New Music festival features the music of Irish composer Jennifer Walshe. On February 26, the festival audience will have the chance to hear Walshe’s work, He wants his cowboys to sound like how he thinks cowboys should sound. Stockholm New Music is a major international contemporary music festival which this year will be featuring a wide range of artists including the internationally-renowned virtuoso vocal ensemble Die Neue Vocalsolisten from Stuttgart, soloists Anna Clementi, Jeanette Bjurling, Mikael Samuelson and Anne Pajunen, and experimentalists such as the Norwegian group Spunk and the Swedish duo Ludd. The concerts, which will be recorded and transmitted by Swedish Radio, take place in a variety of venues throughout the city. As of this year 2005, Stockholm New Music will become an annual festival coordinated by Concerts Sweden and presented in partnership with Berwaldhallen, Sami/Nalen, the Stockholm Concert Hall, the Royal Stockholm Opera and the Swedish Radio. Jennifer Walshe also collaborated in the composition of a new operatic work, Commander Kobayashi, which was premiered at the Hamburg Staatsoper on January 14 by the German opera company Novoflot. With further performances of the opera in Berlin as well as a DAAD Berliner Kuenstlerprogramm Portrait Concert in the same city on 17 January, Walshe is gaining very valuable exposure in Germany at present.
