Walshe’s Bed of Soft

Jennifer Walshe
Jennifer Walshe

Composer and performance artist Jennifer Walshe’s music installation Bed of Soft can be experienced over four days in May.

Commissioned by Project arts centre, Dublin, a bed frame will be constructed at the National Sculpture Factory in Cork, where it will be strung with piano wire. Installed in Project’s Cube the composer will position herself underneath the bed where she will pluck the strings and sing to audience members who lie above her one at a time.

Currently based in Berlin, Walshe often chooses performance formats other than the formal concert to present her work. Her opera, Commander Kobayashi, was premiered at the Hamburg Staatsoper in January this year by the German opera company Novoflot, and a vocal work, he wants his cowboys to sound like how he thinks cowboys should sound was premiered by Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart in February.

Bed of Soft opens on Wednesday 25 May and will be open to the public for 4-6 hours a day from Thursday 26 to Saturday 28 May.
