RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet

String quartets by Piers Hellawell and Stephen Gardner are to be performed in the quartet’s 2005-2006 season.

The RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet will, over five tours nationwide, present music encompassing the full scope of the string quartet repertoire, from the elegance and refinement of the Classical period, through the raw emotion of Romanticism and the sweeping, sometimes fleeting vistas of Impressionism, to the excitement and sense of discovery of the music of today.

The cutting edge of today’s music is provided this season by Piers Hellawell’s evocative Driftwood on Sand and Stephen Gardner’s strong and provocative Don’t push your granny when she’s shavin’.

In a change of venue, the quartet’s Dublin Sunday afternoon concerts at 3.15pm will now take place in the Shaw Room of the National Gallery of Ireland.

Piers Hellawell's Driftwood on Sand features in the tour starting on 29 September in Christ Church Cathedral, Waterford.
