Spaarnay Plays in Dublin Outstanding Dutch performer Harry Spaarnay plays in Dún Laoghaire on his Irish visit this July. The concert, part of the summer season in St Michael’s Church, Dún Laoghaire, takes place on 10 July at 8.30 pm prior to Spaarnay’s visit to Galway for Concorde’s Music from the Edge weekend. Performing with his wife, organist Silvia Castillo as the Duo Levent, the programme includes works by contemporary composers Nino Diaz, Eugene Friesen /Paul Halley, Frank Denyer , Meliha Doguduyal , Siaw Kin, Matthias Kadar and Roderik de Man. Many of these are Irish premieres. The Duo Levent was founded in 2000 and is still the only duo featuring the unique combination of bass clarinet and organ. The name Levent means ‘the wind’ in French and even in the short time the group has been in existence some 40 works have been written for them by composers from countries such as Poland, China, Germany, The Netherlands, America, Canada, Mexico, Sweden, France, Turkey, Spain and Greece. The Duo Levent has given concerts in Europe, America and Australia. In April 2005 they made a CD recording for the Edmonton Composers Society in Canada.
