Contemporary Choral Music in Schools
A workshop on new Irish choral music will be held in the Contemporary Music Centre in January. The workshop, organized jointly by CNC/Association of Irish Choirs and the Contemporary Music Centre, will explore recent Irish compositions suitable for post-primary school choirs. Prominent issues such as approach and rhythmic analysis particular to contemporary compositions will be addressed through workshop demonstrations under the guidance of composer Rhona Clarke. The workshop will be of assistance to teachers or conductors finalising their repertoire selections for upcoming choral competitions and performances, particularly choral music in the Irish language. The half-day session will take place in the Contemporary Music Centre, Fishamble Street, Dublin 8, on the afternoon of Saturday 14 January.
