Daniel Figgis’s The Gates

Composer Daniel Figgis presents his work, The Gates, in an open-air setting in Dún Laoghaire on 23 January.

Described as an ‘imposition’ for tape, it features locally-based brass quintet the Ottoni Ensemble and explores themes of loss and the romance of abandoned public spaces. It will be performed in quadraphonic surround-sound on the bandstand in Dún Laoghaire’s People’s Park at 3.45 pm during the Sunday Coco Market. It is dedicated to the memory of the late Timothy Keane.

The Ottoni Ensemble (Gavin Warren, Enda Collins, Jane Hilliard, Charles Kavanagh and Rossa O'Neill) performs a complementary programme from 3.00 pm.

This event follows the successful intermedia presentation of Tamper by the same composer in Dublin’s Marlay Park in September 2004. It is supported by the Arts Council, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and Sound Hire.

The People’s Park, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.
Sunday 23 January 2005, 3:00pm. Admission free.
