The Economic and Social Significance of Performing Arts

DIT logo

A one-day conference on ‘The Economic and Social Significance of Performing Arts’ takes place in DIT in October.

The conference, presented by the Faculty of Applied Arts, DIT in association with the Forum for Music in Ireland, will address the challenges and opportunities of enabling the arts and cultural sector to make its full contribution to Irish society and to the economy.

Contributors from around the world, including Ireland, will place Irish arts and cultural activity in perspective, and focus on possible policy developments. Sir Ken Robinson will deliver the keynote address.

The aim is to raise and influence the public and policy agenda, both with respect to the value that the arts bring to society and the facilities required to underpin this role.

The conference takes place on Thursday 6 October 2005 at the National Gallery of Ireland, Merrion Square.

Register online or contact Gráinne O’Rourke, tel. 01- 402 7829, email grainne.orourke@dit.ie for further information.
