Cork Sounds Out
Sound Out, an innovative sound installation project, takes place as part of the Cork 2005 programme. Curators David Toop and Danny McCarthy have developed the project in conjunction with the National Sculpture Factory (NSF) in Cork. For September 2005, four eminent international sound artists will develop and install site-specific sound works in Cork City. The participating artists are Max Eastley and Scanner (Robin Rimbaud) from England, Akio Suzuki from Japan and Christina Kubisch from Germany. In order to introduce these artists and their ideas to the community of Cork, a public artist's discussion will be held at the Granary Theatre on the evening of 1 March, followed by a public reception to which all interested in meeting with the artists and curators in a social situation are warmly invited. The practice of sound art is enjoying a high profile in Cork City following Soundworks, the successful Art Trail project of 2004. The artists’ discussion begins at 6pm on 1 March in the Granary Theatre, Dyke Road, Cork and is followed at 8pm by a reception in Bodega, Cornmarket Street. Sound Out and NSF are assisted in this project by the Granary Theatre and its Director, Tony McCleane-Fay, and the Bodega, Cornmarket Street, Cork.
Sound Out is an official project of Cork Capital of Culture and is generously supported by the Office of Cork Capital of Culture 2005.
