CMC Contemporary Irish Music Cup

The winners of the Contemporary Irish Music Cup at this year’s Feis Ceoil in Dublin have been announced.

First prize went to Kevin Carberry who played John Buckley’s Fantasia No 1 and No 2 on alto flute and was awarded the Contemporary Music Centre’s cash prize of Euro symbol300.

Second prize was awarded to another flautist, Margaret O’Shea, for her performance of Eibhlis Farrell’s Skyshapes and Fergus Johnston’s Two Pieces for Solo Flute. She received the CMC cash prize of Euro symbol150.

In the composition competitions at Feis Ceoil, the IMRO Award and prize of Euro symbol1,000 was won by Scott McLaughlin with a piece called Mn. Grisey, His Galliard for string orchestra.

The award for Pieces for Children was won by Dermot Solon with three pieces called A Little Irish March, Pleasantries in G flat Major and Quavers for the Blues.

The Milligan Fox Medal was won by Donal Sarsfield with his piece called The Rocky Road to Dublin.
