Brian Boydell and the White Stag Group
The Contemporary Music Centre is presenting a concert of music by Brian Boydell on 17 July at IMMA. A cooperative project with the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), the performance by the ConTempo String Quartet and soloists takes place in conjunction with an exhibition of the so-called White Stag group. This group of British artists based themselves in Ireland in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Boydell, who subsequently opted to pursue music rather than art, was a member. The exhibition -- containing two of Boydell’s paintings -- opens at IMMA on 5 July 2005 and runs until 4 October. The concert, which takes place in the Chapel of the Irish Museum of Modern Art at 3.00 pm, features The Feather of Death (1943), String Quartet No. 1 (1947) and the Oboe Quintet (1940) performed by the leading international ConTempo String Quartet (currently Galway’s Quartet in Residence) with Roland Davitt (baritone), Ríona Ó Duinnín (flute) and Síle Daly (oboe). In addition, a CD recording specially made for the project will form part of the exhibition catalogue. The event has been made possible by the funding support of Trinity College Dublin, Varming Mulcahy Reilly Consulting Engineers, and Mr Aleck Crichton.
