The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra performs a new Irish work in Manchester this month.

Ausland for symphony orchestra by Ed Bennett will be conducted by Scottish composer James Macmillan. As part of a BBC Invitation Concert it will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

This is the third orchestral premiere this year for Bennett. His Radio 3 commission, all of this used to be trees for orchestra and electronic sound was performed by the Ulster Orchestra at the recent Sonorities festival in Belfast. White Lines for the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra was premiered in March and has also been nominated for the British Composer Awards.
