spnm and Concorde Concorde and the UK-based spnm in co-operation with CMC are holding a composer workshop in Dublin on 20 November. In early June 2005 as part of Deirdre Gribbin's second season as artistic director of spnm (Society for the Promotion of New Music), Concorde will perform a concert of new works in Dublin. The spnm, which exists to bring together composers, performers and audiences, has announced a call for proposals for the event. This is an opportunity to write a new piece for Concorde with workshops in advance of submission of the score and parts. Composers will be selected for the project by Jane O'Leary, director of Concorde, and Deirdre Gribbin, spnm artistic director. An open workshop takes place in conjunction with the Contemporary Music Centre on 20 November 2004. This is a chance to hear the instruments, work with the players on sketches and develop ideas. A second, closed workshop takes place on 14 April 2005, as an opportunity to rehearse the first draft of the new pieces. Following this workshop, there will be the chance to complete the piece for final submission by 13 May 2005 with the first performance on 12 June 2005 in the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin. The workshops, rehearsals and concert will take place in Ireland and a bursary fund will be available for those selected to cover travel and accommodation costs. To enter you must be Irish, Northern Irish or resident in Ireland currently. The deadline for submissions is 29 October 2004 and conditions of entry are given in the Opportunities section. The November workshop takes place in the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Rathmines Road, Dublin 6 on Saturday, 20 November from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm. Admission free and all are welcome.
