Recent CD Releases
New CDs of contemporary Irish music released recently include Circle of Light, CMC’s ‘CD of the Month’ for February 2004. This is a Dublin Choral Foundation release and features contemporary music for choir and organ by Eric Sweeney performed by The Lassus Scholars and Piccolo Lasso under their director, Íte O’Donovan and with the composer as organist. Circle of Light spans the past two decades of Sweeney’s output and includes major works such as Le Cercle de Lumiere, Missa Brevis and The Widening Gyre. Swiss-Irish composer John Wolf Brennan's latest CD, Phoenix, was written and recorded by his group Pago Libre and recorded live in Salzburg and Zurich. Achill Suite contains solo piano works by composer/pianist Brent Parker, and The John Gibson Collection features some of Gibson’s previously recorded work alongside new pieces performed by Zephiro, Ruxandra Colan-Petcu and the Crawford Piano Trio. Winter Songs is a collection of Christmas music from composer Michael McGlynn and choral group Anúna, while Silver River is a compilation album of original works and arrangements by the same composer, featuring oboist Matthew Manning.
