The last issue of the Contemporary Music Centre’s newsletter, New Music News, was published in September.

When the first edition appeared in January 1991, it was an important and exciting initiative, bringing news of Irish contemporary music to an international readership for the first time. The profile of the newsletter developed over the next decade, reflecting both the growth of activity in music and the growth of the Contemporary Music Centre itself.

Now, fifteen years later, the enormous changes in technology as well as the way that people access information in the twenty-first century mean that CMC’s web site has taken over this role. The expense of printing and mailing a hard copy publication internationally are heavy, and we feel those resources will be put to better use in making our web site even more user-friendly and comprehensive.

Weekly updates to the What’s New section of this site, for instance, mean that news can be much more up to date there than in a hard copy publication issued just three times a year. They are also available in the site archive, as a useful reference and research resource.

The Calendar listings are updated frequently and they link directly to further information about the composer, the music, and the performance venue.

All interviews and articles undertaken by CMC are posted in the features on irish music section and CDs and music scores are available for purchase on-line from the Shop.

So, while we may, subject to funding, bring the New Music News title back in a different form with a new purpose, for the time being we urge you to make even greater use of this web site.

Don’t forget you can keep abreast of all the news by subscribing to our monthly eshot which highlights upcoming events as well as new material posted on the site. Please pass the word to your friends and colleagues as well.
