Music from the Edge
Concorde and Galway Arts Centre provide an opportunity to sample a wide variety of new music during the afternoons of Saturday July 17 and Sunday July 18. Starting at 2.00 p.m on Saturday 17 July, half-hour performances will take place each hour in an informal setting. Admission is free and seating is mostly on the floor. Following the success of last year’s Galway Arts Festival ‘happening’ at 47 Dominick Street, when hundreds of people dropped in to enjoy outstanding performances, Concorde have again invited international musicians to join them during this year’s festival. Musicians taking part in the weekend include Concorde, the ConTempo Quartet (Galway's ensemble-in-residence), the Richard O’Donnell Percussion Ensemble, and Russian violinist Roman Mints. Composers Rob Canning and Ed Bennett will be present for a number of performances, and a special session on Sunday will premiere short solos and duos specially written for the occasion by Scott McLaughlin, Ben Schlepper-Connolly, Gráinne Mulvey, Garrett Sholstice, Sandie Purcell and Derek Kelly. Further details from Galway Arts Centre or Concorde.
