International Guitar Festival in Ireland The first Walton’s Guitar Festival of Ireland runs from 30 June to 4 July 2004 and features classical guitarist John Williams among other high-profile performers. Williams, who has played in Ireland only twice before, will appear at the National Concert Hall and will also hold a masterclass open to students and the general public. Other performers include French-Algerian guitarist Pierre Bensusen playing at Liberty Hall and Paraguayan guitarist Berta Rojas making her Irish debut at the Bank of Ireland Arts Centre. From closer to home, Clive Carroll -- described as ‘Britain’s best and most original acoustic guitar player -- and Alan Neave, the Scottish guitarist and director of the Dundee Festival, will perform. John Feeley, one of Ireland’s leading guitarists, will also be heard performing a number of Irish works, as there are also performances by jazz legend Louis Stewart, Clive Barnes, and flamenco player Rafael. The five-day festival features an eclectic mix of classical, jazz, world and flamenco guitar and includes an extensive programme of masterclasses, workshops and seminars. These are open to all, although advance booking is recommended. Programme details, further information and booking: Walton’s Guitar Festival of Ireland.
