Groocock Performance at Airfield House
The Sonata for cello and piano by Joseph Groocock will be performed at Airfield House in Dublin on 3 September. Jane Hughes (cello) and Cormuin O’Raghallaigh (piano) are the performers in a programme that features works by Beethoven, Schumann, Couperin and Frank Bridge. Jane Hughes (cello) comes from Derry in Northern Ireland and is a graduate of the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. She has performed with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, The Irish Film Orchestra and Opera North in Leeds. In 2001 she was invited to the USA for her international debut under the auspices of the Irish Heritage Society in Seattle, where she gave the American premiere of the Groocock cello sonata. The pianist Cormuin O’Raghallaigh is from Carrickmacross in County Monaghan. He is a graduate of NUI Maynooth where he waas an organ scholar and as well as being resident organist in Foxrock Parish Church in Dublin and accompanist for the Newpark Music Festival, he teaches piano in Dún Laoghaire Music Centre and at St Gerard’s School in Bray, Co Wicklow.
