Congratulations to composer Raymond Deane who has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Music by NUI Maynooth.

The degree, which was conferred on 3 November, was awarded by virtue of his impressive body of published work as a composer.

This was the first time that a doctorate in music had ever been awarded by NUI Maynooth; the first time it had been awarded by the National University of Ireland by examination process (as opposed to honoris causa) since Aloys Fleischmann gained his DMus in 1963; and only the fifth time it has ever been awarded by the university.
