Cross-Arts Improvisation Sessions

The Association of Professional Dancers in Ireland is holding two ‘Cross Arts’ improvisation sessions for professional artists from all art forms. Taking place in April and May, with further sessions planned for later in the year, an artist from a different discipline will facilitate each session providing opportunities for experimentation and play and allowing participants to delve into cross-arts interaction, free from the constraints of their own discipline.

‘Body Weather Laboratory’ with Morleigh Steinberg
Tuesday 20 April, 6.30-8.30pm.

Independent dancer, choreographer and director Morleigh Steinberg will lead the April session. She invites participants to ‘Challenge your mind, body, muscle and bone and experiment with sensory exercises for the body in this rigorous training from Japan.’

‘Talking to the Audience’ with Gavin Quinn
Tuesday 18 May, 6.30-8.30pm.

Gavin Quinn is joint artistic director of Pan Pan Theatre which he co-founded in 1993. He has directed all of their productions to date and is also artistic director of the Pan Pan International Theatre Symposium which he founded in 1997. He recently worked as a dramaturg for Rex Levitate's production of Bread & Circus. ‘Talking to the Audience’ is designed to use the particular characteristics and energy of the performer to communicate directly to an audience. This workshop is a kind of study of live performance in action based on the principals that what the audience feels can be dictated but not imposed, and that the reaction of the audience contributes to life.

The venue for both workshops is the TEAM Educational Theatre, Marlborough Lane, Dublin 1. Fee: APDI members: Euro symbol6 each or Euro symbol10 to book both sessions. Non-members Euro symbol8 per session.

Further information from the APDI, email prodance@iol.ie or tel. 01-873 0288.
