CMC Radio Project

CMC's continuing policy of promoting international radio airplay by distributing newly-released CDs has scored further successes, this time in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Radio Monalisa is a weekly radio program broadcast in Amsterdam featuring music from female composers past and present. The playlist for the next quarter contains several works by Irish composers including music from Joan Trimble on 5 October; Rhona Clarke and Gráinne Mulvey on 19 October; Siobhán Cleary and Eibhlis Farrell on 21 December; and Deirdre Gribbin and Jane O’Leary on 28 December.

Radio 1-2-3 Nederland and Radio 1-2-3 Belgié jointly presented a ‘Country Week Ireland’ from 30 August to 5 September. Broadcasting to 97 different radio stations in Holland and Belgium, multiple works by more than 30 Irish composers were heard during the week, both from the Contemporary Music Centre’s own promotional CDs and from commercial CDs supplied to the stations.

In August, Portuguese Classical Radio RDP/Antena 2 broadcast two programmes of Irish contemporary music as another direct result of this project, and in July a 5-hour marathon of Irish music was broadcast from WPRB, one of America’s most powerful college radio stations based in Princeton, New Jersey.
