"Bring down the noise-gate": A talk with music by composers Jennifer Walshe and Michael Maierhof

On 22 March 2003 the Project Arts Centre presents the world premiere of a commission to Jennifer Walshe, Now Wash Your Hands, in a programme curated by the composer, which includes Michael Maierhof's splitting 5. In advance of this concert Jennifer and Michael will present a lunch time event on 21 March at CMC with music and discussion on the following themes: sound qualities -- what is the material in today's music? the cut -- a compositional tool; pop music and energy.

Jennifer Walshe is an Irish composer whose works have been performed throughout Europe, the US and Canada by groups such as Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Resonanz, the Crash Ensemble, Champ d'Action, the Irish Youth Wind Ensemble, Vamos!, Q-02, amongst others. Jennifer won the 2000 Kranichsteiner Musikpreis in Darmstadt, the 2002 first prize in the SCI/ASCAP Commission Competition and has just been short listed for the International Gaudeamus Music Week September 2003. Jennifer is also active as a performer in the experimental improvisation duo nolimetangere.

Michael Maierhof is a German composer of mostly chamber, vocal and multimedia works that have been performed throughout Europe and elsewhere. Michael is self taught as a composer. He studied mathematics and music in Kassel and art history and philosophy in Hamburg and did not begin composing until 1988. In 2001-2003 he was guest lecturer at Trinity College, Dublin, the Stuttgarter Musickhochschule, California Art Institute in Los Angeles and the Mozarteum Salzburg.

    This is a world premiere of a programme curated by Jennifer and commissioned by Project. It features the work of Michael Maierhof, Amnon Wolman, Peter Edwards, Andrew Hamilton and James Saunders.

  • Friday 21   March ensemble Integrales "Electric Currents-Unter Strum"

    For ten years ensemble Integrales' expressive interpretation and experimental curiosity has thrilled European fans of contemporary music and now for the first time they can be heard in Ireland. The programme will feature the premiere of Glamour Sleeper 2 by Donnacha Dennehy, as well as works by Netochka Nezvanova, Marko Ciciliani, Yannis Kyriakides and Burkhard Friedrich.

Tickets 14/10 euros but if you buy tickets for both ensemble Integrales and Jennifer Walshe you will get two tickets for 24/16 euros
